Australia’s very own Dane Folpp has done it again — this time claiming the FMBA Red Bull Rookie of the Year title with an incredible 1,442 points. At just 18 years old, Dane has become one of the youngest Australians to earn international recognition in the global Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour (FMB World Tour).

What started as a local passion for jumps and trail rides on the Northern Rivers has evolved into something remarkable. Competing across Europe, Canada, and New Zealand, Dane’s consistent top finishes throughout the 2025 season have put him firmly on the international radar.

The Red Bull Rookie of the Year award is presented by the Freeride Mountain Bike Association (FMBA) to the top-performing young male and female riders who show exceptional progression, sportsmanship, and dedication across the FMB World Tour. Dane’s score of 1,442 points places him among the next generation of global Slopestyle athletes poised to move into the elite Crankworx Diamond ranks.

🏆 2025 Highlights

Dane’s season was a masterclass in consistency and composure, with podium finishes and top-ten results across Gold and Silver events around the world:

  • 🥇 Horseshoe, Canada — 1st place (FMBA Silver)
  • 🥈 Vittoria, Italy — 2nd place (FMBA Silver)
  • 🥉 Birell Bike Fest, Slovakia — 4th place (FMBA Silver)
  • 💪 Silverstar, Canada — 5th place (FMBA Gold)

🔧 Behind the Bars

When Dane’s not competing overseas, and is not on his bike, which is not very often, you’ll find him back home in the Northern Rivers in New South Wales, mostly on his bike and working in the Northern Rivers Cycles and Bike Hire Shop in Mooball — helping customers, finding their passion in riding, and staying grounded in the same community that’s supported him from the beginning. His approach to both racing and work is the same: focus, humility, and care.
